Jennifer Lowe

Jennifer Lowe, B.A., has cerebral palsy, and is unable to speak, walk, or control her extremities how she wishes. Therefore, she uses an augmentative communication device to speak and gets around in a wheelchair. 

 Jennifer earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Specialized Studies from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She had two concentrations to her degree - Special Education and Writing. Since she earned that degree, she has obtained and maintained employment. She has published several articles in the Pittsburgh Employment Conference for Augmented Communicators Conference Proceedings (PEC@): She was the Executive Director of SHOUT and Lead Ambassador of The Pittsburgh Ambassador Program for more than a decade whose major support came from the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. As the Executive Director of Shout, she helped to organize PEC@ by networking with the giving community. Seventeen years ago, Jennifer took on a position with the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN). PaTTAN is affiliated with the Special Education Department in the Pittsburgh Public School System. Her duties are compiling information on new augmentative communication devices and working in transition. She is a mentor at the annual ICAN Talk AAC summer camp. She also is working with AAC United and the AAC Institute to re-organize and establish the Pittsburgh Employment Conference for Augmented Communicators.
